Street Food Festival Checklist: What to Know Before You Go
Street food festivals are one of the best ways to try lots of vendors in one go โ but a bit of planning makes the difference between a great visit and a couple of hours in a queue. Here's a practical checklist.
Before you leave home
- Check the festival's official opening times โ weekday hours often differ from weekends
- Check the weather โ most festivals are outdoors, and queues move slower in rain
- Bring both cash and card โ most vendors take card, but signal can be patchy at busy events
- Eat a light breakfast, not a big one โ you'll want room to try more than one stall
While you're there
- Arrive early or arrive late โ avoid the 12โ2pm and 5โ7pm peak queue windows if you can
- Split dishes across your group โ try more vendors instead of one big meal at a single stall
- Note down vendors you like โ names, not just "the burger van", since you'll want to find them again
- Check if a vendor also trades independently โ many festival vendors run regular pitches too
After the festival
This is the part people usually skip โ and the part that actually matters if you found a vendor you loved. Festival vendors often trade independently during the week or at other events, but if you don't note them down (or follow them somewhere), you'll likely never find them again.
